About Australian Mountain Doodles

What is an Australian Mountain Doodle?

Australian Mountain doodles, or AMD, are a cross between an Australian Shepherd, a Poodle, and a Bernese Mountain Dog. Here at Ridgeline Doodles we achieve this highly sought after hybrid by combining our proven lines of Aussiedoodles with our wonderful new addition of the Bernedoodle.

The Australian Mountain Doodle is a unique mix that results in an adventurous, family focused, versatile dog. They are not only highly adaptable and friendly but gorgeous too!

What size dogs are Australian Mountain Doodles?

AMD’s can come in a wide range of sizes, from mini sized 20-30lbs, to the large standard size of 100+lbs. We currently only offer mini sized AMD’s. A medium sized Australian Mountain Doodle line from us is in the works!

What color is an Australian Mountain Doodle?

Australian Mountain Doodles can come in many different colors, but most commonly and most sought after are the tri colored coats that are a staple pattern in all three breeds! You will see Blue Merle, Red Merle, Black tri, & Red tri in our AMD’s here at Ridgeline Doodles.

What's it Like To Train an Australian Mountain Doodle?

This pairing combines the loving steadfast family dog of Bernese with the adaptability and allergy friendly Poodle, alongside the intelligence and trainability of the Australian Shepherd. The goal has been to create an allergy friendly version of the Bernese and Aussie with the more biddable and longer life for the Bernese, as well as the calm stoic nature being melded with the Poodle and Aussie line.

Keeping all of that in mind, Poodles are very human-like and read emotions easily; Aussies are wicked smart and enjoy using their brains for good and bad; Bernese are friendly but stubborn. This cross breed will enjoy positive reinforcement, treats, and consistency.

Are Australian Mountain Doodles Good For People With Allergies?

While we would never call any dog hypoallergenic, because human allergies and their causes and roots can be very complex, an Australian Mountain Doodle can be allergy friendly when paired properly for the correct genetics. It is very important for us as breeders to know if we have a family with high allergies looking for a puppy from us, we do offer additional guidance on litter options/ test samples and even extra genetic testing on possible puppy matches.

More Breed Information

What is the Energy Level of an Australian Mountain Doodle?

Australian Mountain Doodles are lovely family dogs. They enjoy spending time with their human family members and being active inside and outside. This breed is intelligent and is easy to train. They are typically very dog friendly as well and enjoy things like fetch, tug, ball play, walks, and even binging a favorite TV show!

They have been cultivated to be a well rounded family dog for active people. On average the AMD would be labeled as a medium energy level, at least past the puppy stages of course!

Do Australian Mountain Doodles Need Regular Grooming?

Yes! Australian Mountain Doodles can have hair that is straight, wavy, or curly. The coat type will depend on the parents of the pairing as well as the generation of Australian Mountain Doodle the puppies are. No matter the coat type, all will require frequent brushing and professional grooming. The shorter the coat is kept the easier for brushing and less maintenance. A long luxurious coat is possible, but takes dedication to keep their long locks looking their best. We recommend all AMD’s visit a professional groomer at a minimum every eight weeks.
